Tomorrow is the 10th March, which is also the birthday of everyones favourite werewolf, Remus John Lupin .

Played in the HP movies by David Thewlis, Remus is the adored DADA teacher, brave Order member and the sensible Marauder.

I make no apologies for this gushing tribute thread , the Gallery Goddesses will post lots of images of him from the movies and I'm sure you will all join me in begging Jo to not kill him off in Deathly Hallows.

I must admit that I'm not too fond of David Thewlis as Remus. The moustache gets on my nerves and, well, he isn't really my Remus.

I'm ok with the moustache! When I read the books, David Thewlis is the character I imagine. I think that is down to his wonderful performance in PoA.

Now to celebrate I think WB should release an official image, just of Remus .

I agree MaraudingDon, David Thewlis is a wonderful Lupin and the mustache doesn't bother me a bit. He's the one I picture when I read.

Lupin has been always one of my favourite Mauraders - Sirius was a little too...reckless... for me. So I am sure Jo will make sure one Maurader survives the series! Won't she?

So I guess I agree with most you guys, I think Thewlis is the perfect Remus. Its a little weird because I get all hung up about canon, & if the movies arent like 100% accurate I start picking holes in everything, but somehow, although Thewlis isnt canon (& we wont mention the mustach) he *makes* Remus his character (or is that the other way around??) He totally brings the calm side of Professor Lupin alive, the way he looks isnt like some demented werewolf but yeah, a guy with a furry little problem. He just looks the part.
Seeing as this is about images (although he acts & sounds the part, too) in all the bazillion images of Remus I dont think theres one where I think, it looks wrong. He plays the part so well, somehow it dont matter that he's not exactly canon.
It just does not get any cooler than a chocolate-connaisseur werewolf.

I think that in the books, Remus is my favourite character. He's just so sweet, especially in his first class when he gently tries to build up Neville's confidence. He's endured so much injustice and pain in his life but he's still such a kind, gentle character... you'd think he'd turn into CAPSLOCK!Lupin at least once! I know I would if I were in his shoes.

I can't help thinking that Remus might be the character that Jo said she was originally planning to kill off but has been given "a reprieve." Maybe originally she thought she could bump off all the Marauders and let them be together again, but now that Remus is so cute and happy with Tonks (and beloved by almost all HP fans!) she decided to give at least one Marauder the chance at a happy future. After all that suffering he deserves a chance, right? Or perhaps I'm just in denial... actually, that's more likely. *sighs melodramatically.*

I don't really like David Thewlis' portrayal much, but I have to admit that the biggest reason is probably the moustache- it makes me think of a rodent for some reason. I wish he'd get rid of it; then he'd be a great Remus.

Anyway, a very belated Happy Birthday, Remus!

Happy much belated birthday to both Lupin and David Thewlis. Lupin is certainly one of my favorite book character and Thewlis's Lupin is my favorite movie character. I don't know if we'll see to much of him in DH, but I'm with you all in wishing for a happy ending.

I've found it! A Remus-thread! Remus is defiantly my favorite character. First I liked him as a teacher and just as a adult. Then came Snape's Worst Memory and fan fiction. I've never been the same since. I think some of the reasons why I like Remus so much is because he's been through so much and he still stays nice. And he also reminds me a lot of myself.

David Thewlis is not really my Remus, but I think he does a good job. I mean, you can't please everyone and I like him as an alternate Remus. But I certainly prefer canon-Remus.

I really, really hope Remus doesn't die in Deathly Hallows. I would be in shock for days.

If Remus dies, my friend expects a sobbing phonecall. I really hope he has a happy ending with Tonks. With the multi-coloured werewolf cubs, of course.

David Thewlis was the best actor in PoA and was great as Lupin. I'm not sure why they gave him the moustache but I think it suits his character anyhow.

Hope he has a few good scenes in OoTP.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see Lupin included in the OotP trailer (as one of the "great wizards" )--

As MaraudingDon mentioned I really hope we get to see that Sirius' loss affects both Harry and Remus.

I completely agree! As far as I am concerned he is one of the "great wizards". It was so nice just to see a touch of him in the trailer, hope he gets more screentime in the film LOL.

Like a few people I was super glad to see Remus in the tralier as well. I wasn't expecting him, and then there he was! I had to watch it a few times over to make sure he was actually there, hoping I just didn't imagine it!

Aww!!! I absolutely adore Lupin!! He is just such a sweetheart and you honestly can't help but love him to pieces!!!

I love David Thewlis' portrayal and (having seen the first three films before I read the books) he is who I see when I read the books. I'm very anxious to see how much screen time he's gonna get in OotP, and of course the heart-wrenching Dept. of Mysteries scene, I'm really scared to see that because I know I'm just gonna be weeping like I did when I read it!

I will be really, really, really upset if he dies in DH! I think after all he's been through, losing all the people Harry has plus the fact that he is still an outcast in society, he deserves some happiness!

oh god I hope they dont spoil his reaction by making him overly emotional or something, but who knows, they do love ruining those movies. although I've decided not to hate David now. I really didn't like the 'oh yes, I knew her -turns away dramatically-' scene from POA but I guess he was ok apart from that.

Lupins moustache looks different from PoA. Its a bit more furry and shorter. Have to wait to watch movie to see how its really evolved.

I don't think they'll make him overly emotional, pranko. In the video Hagiographer linked to, it seemed like he was just explaining things - very much Professor Lupin. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the new movie - I think it's going to be awesome!

Its looks really weird with Lupin apparating into the Ministry. Making his apparition trails white was a nice touch to represent that he is on the good side.

This is not dismissing you or your thoughts, but, in my opinion it's kind of *gah* I cant even think of a word, outdated maybe, to use black for the bad guys & white for the good guys. It's like some of those old black & white TV shows, the bad guy was always Mister / Captain / Agent Black. And, even if it's not risking bringing up old stereotypes or even prejudices, it is like a neon sign to indicate who's on the good side, so there's no mystery ... which is not always a good thing, because it can ruin plots too. And if there was a character who's loyalties we are unsure of, will they give him a gray traily thing if he apparates

Point noted Moose_Starr. I can see now your qualms with the colour of the apparition trails. Is there a description of what an apparition looks like or its colour in cannon? What colour would be neutral?

Also is it just me or does anyone else think that Lupin's moustache is different to the one he had in PoA?

Yeah I noticed this, in PoA it was just about okay (in my opinion) that he has a mustach, but now it seems way fluffier & he appears to have more facial hair. The worrying thing is he looks increasingly like my bunny, which is kind of alarming for my sanity & also reminds me of James refering to his furry little problem with everyone thinking that Lupin had a badly behaved rabbit

I hadn't noticed until it was brought up here, but Remus does look a little hairier in this film. It makes perfect sense to me as in the book Harry notes that Lupin is looking shabbier than ever, and I think Lupin has started to contact the werewolves at this point--or am I confusing this with HBP?

Anyway, Lupin's presence in this film really heartens me, as he acts as a steadying influence, both for Sirius and Harry.

Yes, he does look 'hairier' and I must say that I'm glad. Its more closer to how he is in the books, and yeah, if I remember correctly, he talks about his contact with the werewolves when they have that chat at Grimmauld Place, the day Harry arrives. We know that that will happen in the film, as we've seen footage of it, so I really hope that he explains where's his been and why.

I can't wait to see that scene where he grabs Harry after you-know-who's (not the evil one) dies.

I don't know bout you guys but I'm hoping we see some long looks between tonks and Remus in OoTP hehehe But what I'm really looking forward to seeing is the scene in HBP at the school hospital, when Tonks breaks down and tells Remus that she doesn't care he's a werewolf - I think I will faint with happiness when I see that scene, it was such an 'AWWWW!' moment for me when I read HBP. It's definately one of my favourite moments from the entire series *gah I will be so angry if they cut it *grumbles incoherently about a certain script-writer*

But anyway, love this thread - REMUS does indeed ROCK!!

Yes, someone else who shares my want!

I just want to see that scene in HBP so much, and I will be mad if they cut it. But its like people who aren't R/T shippers say: its not that relevant to the story. I hope the filmmakers do put it in, at least to show that there is love among others who are associated with Harry.



As long as we get a small piece of dialogue between them, and presuming that when they do this they look at each other, is all I want....well no....its just fine with me, cuz Gods knows that I would pay big money to see them do more than that!

I am curious though, in the http://media.wii.ign.com/media/842/842199/vid_2014364.html of the actors doing the voices for the game, we see Natalia Tena (Tonks) say: "Watch out Lupin!". So, I'm wondering, and hoping, if that occurs in the movie.

I almost peed my pants with joy when I saw the Lupin footage from the trailes... I adore the man!
I love the Apparation shot, and I love that they gave him a more scruffy look (incl facial hair) in this movie.

And I do hope that Order at least shows some of that spark between Tonks/Remus... I really do. For me it's obviously there, and I want to see it! If the hospital scene gets cut in DH? Oh boy... wicked pissed I reckon.

Did anyone else find that in the video game you don't see/hear any of the other order members in the ministry battle. You just fight with lucius, bellatrix, sirius and harry. I don't know where that part Netalia said is in the video game.

Perhaps I should be leaving this for one of the Gallery officials to respond to but AFAIK any captures of images from the film that WB have not released publicly are frowned upon here in the Leaky Galleries. Captures from camcorders in the cinema or off a pirate DVD will be most likely removed.

I'm still wondering why Remus wasn't in the Advance Guard at Privet Drive? But I like how they kept Tonk's line of "Unatural these muggles." in relation to Petunia being a clean freak and her angry "Don't - call - me - NYMPHADORA!"

But so happy we get to see more of Remus though still not as much as I'd like. If there's a christmas scene in HBP which I'm still not sure they'll keep we may get some looks from Remus when he talks about why Tonk's patronus has changed and why her powers don't work. Hmmm...

This is pretty true! I think if we were to post up any paraded screen grabs B would be pretty upset with us, and we don't want that! We do have screencaps of all the trailers in the Galleries http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/category/693 along with a good amount of the tv spots. We are working on getting all the different clips which have been on tv screencapped and into our galleries, but there are just so many it's been taking us a bit! If you see this scene in one of the clips in the video galleries let me know and I can see about getting the priority of that video capped can be upped a bit, but I can't promise anything.

First just wanna say I'm so happy I found this thread because Remus so Rocks!

Well having just seen the film tonight (and can i say wooo! best one yet def. I cried so bad at the bit where...well you know) I totally agree with the quoted comments.
Thought that they should have included Lupin and Tonk's banter at privet drive, to give more of a lead in to the hopital scene in HBP, seeing as they had her saying that line anyway.
On the other hand thought Natalie Tenna did good job of Tonks (shes not MY personal Tonks but I can deal) and David Thewlis seems to have the character of Lupin down perfectly...so the unexpected facial hair can also be dealt with

Two things that will make me so ANGRY
1) Hospital scene is cut from HBP (grrrrrr they CANNOT do it....its not allowed)
2) Lupin/Tonks/Both are killed off in DH. Angry actually doesn't cover this as they're my two fav characters. The book will be in serious danger...

I agree 'certain' events were devastating - and you know what, even though there was alot of stuff I expected most of it I didnt -- like the way they went about everything I couldn't have guessed that, cause it all just seemed a bit random...and I guess cause I've read so much fanfiction but I just had this feeling like...I don't know there was going to be something so spectacular -- not that I was dissapointed not in the least but you know there's just some things that bother me...the Epilogue for instance...I mean I was expecting more than just a few pages...oh well....maybe I should read it a few more times cause I went through it pretty quickly...

I have to say I've read the spoilers AFTER DH has come out.(I only manage to get DH at a later date.) After finding out that Remus & Dora are one of those that's gonna die, its hurts me real badly. I was pretty much on a down mood when I started the book.
Even though many said that reading the spoilers kind of prepares you for what's gonna happen. But I swear that when I found out that Dora is pregnant. My tears started falling and it won't stop(at that point of time I've yet to finish the whole book). Not knowing if I'm gonna see the baby of Remus, it hurts me even more.
When it comes to the part having Remus and Dora lying at the hall. I just felt that its so unjustifying. Being the couple that many starts to love, their death is really something that we want to know. How hard they've fought before their life comes to an end.
Maybe it was just me being emotional on it. But what is done, is done. I just hope that when the final movie is out. I'm able to cope with it.

That would be really good. They have released casting images or news for Fenrir Greyback and although it's great to see who's new for the next movie, it would also be nice to have some new official pictures of the regular guys.
It will be interesting to see what changes they've made to Remus this time, hopefully the changes will not be too extreme.

Well, since this thread is about Remus, AND the awesome David Thewlis who portrays him in the films, I thought it might be nice to mention that David won the "Richard Harris Award" from the British Independent Film Association for his outstanding work in Brit Indie flicks. As mentioned http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2008/11/30/david-thewlis-receives other HP actors in attendance this evening at the BIFAs were Ralph Fiennes and Brendan Gleeson.

David Thewlis and his character of Remus Lupin! I agree with most of you on here and I really wish that JKR had thought it out a little more and not had Lupin be a victim of Voldemort in the final battle at Hogwarts. Yes I am a quite bit late on wishing him a happy B'day but he is my favorite character in the series and he always will help Harry and his friends!

Remus has always been my favorite character from the start. I was so excited when I figured out that we had the same birthday!
On another note. I am NEVER reading the seventh one EVER again. that was the worst day of my life, when I read that Remus and Nym died. I was sobbing _{^{uncontrollably. my mom(she had'nt read the book yet)came in and the first thing she said was'" oh no, Harry died did'nt he" It was terrible.
after that, the whole time she was reading it ,she'd come to a death scene and she'd ask if that was the one, and say " more people are going to DIE!" When I told her it wasn't the one.
when she finally got to the death scene, SHE DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE IT HAPPENED! Her favorite character has always been Snape. so I guess she was still thinking about his death when she read it.'sigh'
Me and my sister just pretend like Remus and Nym never died I just couldn't cope. In fact me and my sister pretend like none of the Marauders died, so we can make stories together.}}

It's really cool to see David Thewlis. David is a kind of actor that likes to be in kids films. Thewlis knows how to get through to kids and howto tell the truth like it should be told.

Like during the scene where Remus and Harry we chatting about some stuff regarding his parents. It seems that how David Thewlis approached the role as Remus Lupin is kind of how he approachs roles like a teacher would.
