What type/genre of writing do you prefer? Please vote in the above poll, then explain your choice here in the thread.
Why do you prefer that type of writing? What about it appeals to you? Have you read a lot of that type? Is it easier for you to write in that style? Does it allow you to tell the story you want to tell? I prefer to write novel, short stories or screenplays. I'm actually writing a novel and a screenplay at the moment. I absolutely love it.
I think it's because I read mostly novels and short stories, went to school for film so that's stuck in my brain. I love short stories because it gets to the point a lot quicker. If I'm not in the mood to read long stories I go to them. Some of my short stories are so short I don't write them down sometimes. They sometimes turn into novels then I have to write them down. As for the genre, it's usually sci-fi/fantasy. -------------------- ![]() W.L.Y.J. We love you Jo |

Most of what I write are novels, or, when I have writer's block, a nice little short story. I guess it's because that's what I read most and so I feel like I know what a lot of people like in a novel.
I also write in my journal/blog at least once a week. And, I adore writing poetry, especially when I'm upset. -------------------- "Time passes in moments, which, rushing by, define the path of a life just as surely as they lead towards its end. How rarely do we stop to examine that path, to see the reasons why all things happen?"

I enjoy writing fantasy short stories, and I say this because the five thousand times I've tried to write novels, I've given up halfway through and turned them into short stories. The reason I enjoy fantasy is because I have a gigantic imagination, and I can let my mind wander. No matter what I write, it can be accepted as factual in the context of the story, so I can let myself go and have fun with it.
As you can tell, historical/realistic fiction is my arch-nemesis. I also like writing fan fiction, but not for HP, because I feel like I have so much to live up to, with so many great fanfics out there (and Jo herself, of course). Instead I write fanfic for the Pendragon series, which is a completely different ballgame than HP fanfic. Very few ships over there. I love writing novels and short stories.
I am currently working on some fan fiction, but its harder than it seems. Personaly I find it harder than writing regular novels. -------------------- As ice cold hands rip into your heart

I like to write Essays, Novels, Short stories, Reviews, and Haiku. Haiku is my new addiction. It's short, and sweet.
I like to write fanfics, too. I have few fanfic ideas in my notebook, which I want to start. ^_^ -------------------- |

I love writing novels or short stories, because there's a large scope to experiment, write what you like, whatever comes to your mind. It gives a lot of freedom to write about just anyone, anything or any world.
Poetry is my second addiction! I usually write poems when I'm upset. They're usually all written as diary entries, so I guess I could club it in one! -------------------- "The Aurors are part of the Rotfang Conspiracy, I thought everyone knew that. They're working from within to bring down the Ministry of Magic using a combination of Dark magic and gum disease."

I've written a historical drama in both novel and play form. I also do fanfiction for both HP and Torchwood, and that usually takes up most of my time. I love plays right now because I'm really in a dialouge mind-set. I find my strongest suit is developing characters.
Today my friend told me about a dystopian novel concept he came up with, and I'm creating the characters. Soooo much fun! -------------------- ![]() ![]() The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible.-Oscar Wilde Oscar and Luna icons by marauderthesn |
