I don't know about some of the other fans on here, but due to circumstances with school and one thing or another, I haven't had much time for Harry Potter over the last 2 years. I didn't finish all my exams until late june, so you can imagine how I felt when I discovered all the forums, the fan fiction, the theories, the videos, discussions, shipping etc. with only days to go..
 So I'm asking you now, if you were in the same situation as me, or you wanted more time before Deathly Hallows would you go get it? And how would you go about getting it? By not going outside, not reading newspapers? Not going on the internet? What lengths would you go to, to make sure that you had written as much fan fiction as possible and covered every possible theory before DH? Personally, although I would love more time, I am going to be in London, Piccadilly for the release so I guess I don't have much choice. Just hoping for some general feedback here, would you like more time, how would you get it, what would you do in that extra time etc. Also do you think that all those things can be done after book 7? Or not? Thanks -------------------- |

Well, if you don't want to get spoiled you are in for a hell of a time. I won't get my copy of Deathly Hallows until late July or early August, and I don't know what I am going to do to avoid the stupid news reporters spoilers

I know! It would be best to avoid all forms of media if you want to be spoiler free. Become a hermit and live in a cave.
 That what I'll do when I receive my copy of DH. I pre-ordered it on Amazon cos my brother's 30th birthday party happens to be on the same day as the release. So I'm hoping it will be there when I get back. That is if the postal workers do not strike on the 21st as they have been warning they'll do. --------------------  |

Well the obvious things would be to avoid message boards and chat rooms etc. and to not read reviews. Also STOP READING at the first mention of the name 'Harry' or 'Potter'.
But even that won't help, I'm afraid. People go out of their way to be nasty buggers and I've heard of people putting up banners proclaiming that Dumbledore died just after the release of HBP. There are also so many Potter fans in all walks of life that it's hard to avoid stumbling into a conversation - and people don't put spoiler warnings in their conversations. The best advice I can give is to learn to take spoilers well. Remember that your basic spoiler will never spoil the enjoyment of reading a whole book for yourself, of finding out the whys and hows and all the details that make a story rich, textured and enjoyable. Things like 'Dumbledore dies' aren't the whole story on their own, nor are they the most exciting aspects. And Jo Rowling writes in such a way that you will always manage to be surprised at several points regardless of how many spoilers you hear. |

There was some fool contestant in the hot dog eating contest on ESPN a few days ago that thought he'd be cool and produce a handmade cardboard sign as he was being introduced on television that had a Potter TDH spoiler on it. The whole "Snape Kills Dumbledore" thing didn't bother me in the least for THBP. I'd already seen the spoiler the hot dog loser was referring to and I doubt it'll bother me either. -------------------- -Mike-

For HBP, I didn't get my copy until Christmas 2005, so obviously I found out some spoilers. And it was still fun to read!
My little experiment would be to, on release night, be at the front of the line outside your bookstore and then open the book to a random page (blur your eyes so you don't see it of course!) and yell out "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE". See how many people throw things at you before they remember that happened in HBP. |

Okay I am the type of person who will read the extras about different things that are going to happen in the books but who hates to be spoiled...
I remember being soooo excited for HBP to come out...i didn't pre-order the book and i knew i wouldn't get it until a little later so i tried everything possible to not know any major facts or details about the book.. i was talking to a colleage of mine just after the release of HBP and (who wasn't even a big HP fan) and says ...."well i liked this book"...yadda yadda yadda and goes; "it made me SO mad DD dies in the new book"! I was so angry!!! We wern't even talking about HP books!!  but then i guess you just kinda have to deal with them..even though i knew that DD died, all the events that added up to it really made it a great book!
