They say that you will always remember where you were, what you were doing, even what you were wearing when the big moments in history happened. As Harry Potter fans, we remember where we were when the books were released, the midnight showings of the movies, and whrn the big news events happen.

Where were you at Midnight on the release of Deathly Hallows? You have your questions above, explain your choices below.

Happy one year everyone!!!!!!!!

This one's easy for me to remember because my husband, who plays the organ, and I were in Minnesota at a retreat for Lutheran church musicians. We went to a nearby college campus (Gustavus Adolphus) for Lutheran Summer Music festival concerts by adolescent musicians several evenings, and I saw a sign in the college bookstore that they were having a DH release event at midnight. If I hadn't already ordered the book at Books-a-Million at home, I would probably have been there.

As it was, I didn't pick up my copy until several days later, after I got home. In the meantime I avoided LL and other sites that might discuss bits of the plot, and stuck with newspaper reviews that didn't reveal the plot!

It is also easy for me to remember where I was at midnight, which was sitting in from of the computer, watching the live relay of Jo reading out the first chapter from the Moonlight Signing event.

I remember the night like it was yesterday, I miss it a lot too. I can't believe it's already been a year. I attended the midnight part for DH at a borders. It was a crazy night!! I didn't wait in line for the book too long so i was satisfied to be able to go to bed at around 1 am. lol

The second DH was put in my hands, at 12 06 by a woman dressed up as Umbridge, I burst into tears. Then I screamed, kissed Harry, hugged my friend and strangers, and laughed at the poor suckers who got in line at 1130.

It was 11:01am NZST when DH came out here, I was at the DH book release party at Dymocks bookstore in Wellington. It also happened to be my first ever release party too, I kept missing the earlier ones. I dressed up as a generic witch, wearing my Slytherin locket and Peverell ring replicas(which were my own creation)to boot. I got interviewed by Radio New Zealand and I think I still have the photos that were taken by a newspaper photographer during the event somewhere.

Hey! First post ohmy.gif

At midnight, I was sleeping. I know, terrible. but I got up really early, waiting for the postman because mine was pre-ordered. I got it mid morning and I just spent the whole day reading it.
I do really wish I waited in line for it, because I'll never get that chance again. I can't believe its been a year though!!

Before midnight I was hanging out at Barnes and Noble with my family and a friend. I was dressed as Hermione, my sister as Luna (we made her a butterbeer cork necklace and everything) and my brother as Malfoy. He had wanted to be Dobby, but I convinced him Malfoy was cooler since he had been Dobby for the last one. It had been a really good night until I found out my brother lost the Hermione wand my friend had bought me for my birthday. Right after that, my brother won the costume contest! When they were doing the judging, he had this ferocious scowl on his face that everyone loved. biggrin.gif He won a free book, which he gave to me.
At midnight, I was right near the information center, waiting to see how they would distribute the books. Since I was an idiot, I hadn't pre-ordered it, and had to wait until all 500 pre-orders were done, and then the 50 people in front of me had gotten their books. It was annoying!
As soon as I got my book, I hugged it and sort-of danced out of the store, still hugging it. tongue.gif
When I got home around 1 AM, I plopped down in the big chair in the living room and began reading. I only stopped to use the bathroom and get something to drink. At about 6:30, I finished the book. I was exhausted, but too keyed up to sleep, so I sat there and waited for my parents to wake up. Both of them told me I was crazy for staying up all night, especially since we were travelling that day. It was hard to stay awake later that day, so I just read the book again. By the end of the week, I'd read Deathly Hallows three times. biggrin.gif

Before midnight I was in Barnes & Noble with my Dad, dressed up as a Ravenclaw witch (this was before I had the chance to make my Luna jewelry). I was pretty much sitting on the ground for a while before reading The Psychology of Harry Potter because at B&N you picked up the tickets that said when you'd get your book at like...3:00 that afternoon. I watched some of the contests, etc....Then, of course, I joined in the countdown until midnight! biggrin.gif

At midnight I was waiting in line--we were the "C" group, so third to get our books. So not very many people were ahead of us.

When I received my book, the first thing I did was hug the book very tightly to my chest, and then I positively ran to my dad's car to be driven home because I didn't want any stupid people in the store to throw out spoilers.

When I got home around 12:30, I immediately ran up to my bedroom and plopped onto my bed to read. A few chapters in I decided to change, but I was reading while changing. I also went to the bathroom once, CARRYING IT INTO THE BATHROOM. Yep...It took me just around 9 hours to finish reading the book...with one short 10 minute break to eat breakfast because I was really hungry. And I didn't want to continue reading because I was at the end, neither my dad nor my stepmom were, and I didn't want to cry and give things away.

I only dressed up for the release, though. I didn't want to read in my school uniform, so I changed into running shorts and a Harvard t-shirt.

Anyway, I was basically exhausted after staying up all night. So at 4:00 that afternoon I collapsed on my bed and took a two-hour nap. Then I proceeded to go to bed at 8:30 and get up to go hiking the next day...Like Hermionegurlie, by the end of the week I'd read the book 3 times and also listened to my dad reading chapters 11-14 out loud to my stepmom in the car. smile.gif

I wasn't really a Harry Potter fan at the time, (you have no idea how much I regret that I didn't find Harry Potter before after DH dry.gif )so I didn't do anything special... I was acutally on a plane, on my way back home at midnight, didn't really know DH was released then, later that day, when I came home, my parents went to the shop, and for some reason bought DH for me... I hadn't read HBP at the time, so I had to get that as well, so I'm not sure how long it took me to finish DH, I couldn't find HBP so I had to wait a while, so I think I had finished DH about 3 weeks after the release...
